Matrimony

The Catholic Church trusts that when a man and a woman stand before the community to marry each other, the couple will make a free commitment to join lives fully and completely in a life-long faithful covenant that is fruitful in deepening their relationship and accepting children. Through these holy vows, God promises to be with them to sustain them on their journey together and to help them love each other with His very own love.

Candidates for the Sacrament of Matrimony are any faithful Christian member free to marry in or by the Catholic Church (i.e., not bound by a previous union or any other civil or ecclesiastical impediment). Baptized non-Catholics and non-baptized persons are also candidates when marrying a Catholic. 

BEFORE YOU APPLY AND REGISTER

1. You must already be registered as a parishioner and actively contributing to the parish six (6) months before your wedding application.
2. Registered parishioners must then complete a wedding application and submit the following documents at the time of registration:
   1. Recent Original Baptismal Certificate for Marriage with annotations (~ 6 months)
   2. Copies of First Holy Communion and or Confirmation Certificate.[1]

 

 APPLYING AND REGISTERING
 

1. A Marriage Application is filled out by the couple shortly thereafter, and a form that will determine if the bride and groom are "free to marry" must be completed. The front office will assist you in properly completing a Form V Pre-Nuptial Investigation Form.
2. Four (4) Freedom to Marry Affidavits: two (2) are required for the bride and two (2) for the groom. Ideally, these should be family members or friends who have known the bride/groom for at least ten (10) years. Those individuals must schedule an appointment with the front office to complete this form in person.
3. Civil Marriage License issued by the State of Texas at least five (5) days before the date of the marriage ceremony or/for a convalidation, the original or certified copy of the marriage license. In the United States, the priest represents both the Church and the State as a witness to a marriage; consequently, couples are not required to marry civilly before the Catholic wedding takes place.
4. Any needed Dispensations or Permissions; and If one of the parties is under the age of eighteen, a completed parental consent form.[2]

 
Once the above documents are gathered, an application may be filled out. A marriage application is not "complete" until all the documents outlined in numbers 2-6 are completed and submitted.

Los "candidatos" al Sacramento del Matrimonio son cualquier miembro de los fieles cristianos que sea libre de casarse en o por la Iglesia Católica (es decir, que no esté obligado por una unión previa o cualquier otro impedimento civil o eclesiástico). Los bautizados no católicos y las personas no bautizadas también son candidatos al casarse con un católico.

 ANTES DE SOLICITAR E INSCRIBIRSE, EL CANDIDATO NECESITARA:

1. Estar registrado como feligrés y contribuir activamente a la parroquia seis (6) meses antes de su solicitud de boda (a través de sobres de la iglesia).
2. Los feligreses registrados deben completar una solicitud de boda y presentar los siguientes  documentos al momento de la inscripción:
   1. Acta de Bautismo de Matrimonio Original reciente con anotaciones (~ 6 meses)
   2. Copias de la Primera Comunión o Certificado de Confirmación.[1]
       
       

SOLICITUD Y REGISTRO - DOCUMENTOS REQUERIDOS

1. La pareja completa una Solicitud de matrimonio y luego se realiza una breve entrevista que determina si cada candidato es "libre de casarse". La oficina principal lo ayudara a completar correctamente un Formulario V de investigación prenupcial.
2. Cuatro (4) declaraciones juradas de libertad para casarse: se requieren dos (2) para la novia y dos (2) para el novio. Lo ideal es que sean familiares o amigos que conozcan a los novios desde hace al menos10 años. Esas personas deberán programar una cita con la oficina principal para completar este formulario en persona.
3. Licencia de Matrimonio Civil emitida por el Estado de Texas al menos cinco (5) días antes de la fecha de la ceremonia matrimonial o, para convalidación, el original o copia certificada de la licencia de matrimonio. En los Estados Unidos, el sacerdote representa tanto a la Iglesia como al Estado como testigo de un matrimonio; en consecuencia, las parejas no están obligadas a casarse por lo civil antes de que se celebre la boda católica.
4. Cualquier Dispensación o Permiso necesario; y Si una de las partes es menor de dieciocho años, un formulario de consentimiento de los padres completa.[2]
    
    

Una vez que se hayan reunido los documentos anteriores, se puede completar una solicitud: Una solicitud de matrimonio no está "completa" hasta que se completen y presenten todos los documentos descritos en los números 2 a 6.
